Summer is here, bringing warm weather, more time outside, and—finally—the ideal conditions for you to start the home renovation projects you have been planning while held up indoors during winter. With the worst of the pandemic behind us, most people will feel comfortable going out to buy the necessary materials and even inviting professionals into their homes to get those projects done. An item to add to your shopping list? Tape.

Homeowners, DIYers, renovators, house flippers, contractors, and all building and construction pros alike can benefit from the properties of pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape. Tape is effective for a broad range of applications, including: refreshing a small business’ branding with a new sign above the entrance; redoing kids’ bedrooms with wall decals; hanging new family photos to warm up a space; insulating electrical, plumbing, or duct work; and fixing leaky windows.

Compared to more traditional bonding methods, such as liquid adhesives, hook and loop fasteners, mechanical fasteners, and ultrasonic/radio frequency (RF) welding, PSA tape holds the greatest amount of flexibility and versatility in various applications. In fact, a research study commissioned by the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC) and conducted by Breakthrough Research found that over 80% of respondents would consider switching to tape over competing methods for these reasons.

Other key drivers for using tape include:

  • Excellent long-term durability
  • Low cost
  • Ease of application
  • Lightweight
  • Strong sealing and bonding
  • Good stress distribution
  • Protection against heat, moisture, vibration, and sound
  • Aesthetics

The specific uses for tape in building and construction applications abound. This is one of the main reasons people are increasingly choosing it as their go-to method of bonding for:

  • Interior panels
  • Trim attachments
  • Window panel sealing
  • Cladding and facades
  • Weather seals/stripping
  • Roofing and flooring
  • Foundation reinforcement

Inside both rehabbed properties and new construction, PSA tape is used everywhere. Specifically, PSA tape is an excellent option to bond carpeting to the floor, attach muntin bars to windows, and hold moldings and decorative trim in place, making this solution truly useful from the foundation all the way to the roof.
