Sanitary Ribbon Blender
Charles Ross & Son Co. engineers custom blending systems incorporating ergonomic material handling accessories, including bag dump workstations. The company reports that a new design allows an operator to safely empty bags of powder through a bar grating while a contiguous vibrating tray assembly catches foreign debris and off-spec ingredients. The custom cover arrangement is now available on all ribbon blenders.
The pictured model 42N-18SS utilizes safety limit switches that prevent operation of the agitator if any access ports are open or if the grating is removed. All interior and exterior surfaces are stainless steel, polished to 150-grit sanitary finish.
Moisture-Permeable Acrylic Adhesives for Healthcare
A new healthcare-use line of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) has been launched under the Oribain™ brand of acrylic adhesive solutions. The new PSA system addresses the demand for medical tapes and surgical dressing materials that offer high moisture absorbency and breathability, thus minimizing skin maceration and infection.
Toyochem reports that the adhesive compositions are based on acrylics (not silicones) and do not contain any substances that may contaminate coating environments or cause costly bonding issues. The company’s researchers applied its advanced resin synthesis technology to form a polymeric composition that substantially raises the moisture permeability rate of the adhesive layer.
Nanosilica-Filled, Electrically Insulative Epoxy
Master Bond EP21NS is a two-part epoxy that may be used for bonding, coating, sealing, and potting/encapsulating. It has a nanosilica filler that imparts dimensional stability and abrasion resistance. When measured according to ASTM D4060, standard test method for abrasion resistance, with CS-17 wheel for 1,000 cycles, EP21NS reportedly exhibits a low weight loss of 25 mg.
This formulation is a reliable electrical insulation with a volume resistivity greater than 1015 ohm-cm, a dielectric constant of 2.6 at 16.4 GHz, and a dielectric strength of 450 volts/mil at 75°F, for a 1/8-in.-thick specimen. It is serviceable over the temperature range of -80°F to +250°F.
Masking Tape for Painting Applications
tesa® 4338 Green is a high-performance, finger-friendly masking tape solution that can reportedly withstand multiple high-temperature drying cycles across a variety of applications. Finding the right masking tape to meet the demanding requirements of industrial painting applications can be difficult. Manufacturers are often forced to stock multiple, hard-to-work-with masking tapes, each for different needs.
tesa 4338 Green reportedly reduces complexity and increases process efficiencies for manufacturers and provides improved operator friendliness, both during masking and removal. The benefits of tesa 4338 Green were reportedly confirmed in North American customer trials, including outdoor UV resistance under challenging conditions in Nevada.
Expanded Forest Stewardship Council-Certified Product Portfolio
Acucote has continued to expand its Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)-certified product portfolio. The company stocks dye, pigment, UV, HP, and laser digital stocks, along with over 30 prime label materials. The portfolio includes gloss and matte papers, foils, mail tabs, a variety of boardstocks, thermal transfer, and a handful of liners including layflat.
“We were honored to pass our Q4 FSC audit and be able to offer this expanded portfolio,” said Earl Curran, vice president business development. “Over the past year, we have seen growing demands for sustainable material from our customers who in turn need to meet the requirements of their brand owners.”
