Biocompatible UV Adhesive for Soft Plastics

A new UV-curable acrylic adhesive is certified to USP Class VI biocompatibility standards for medical device assembly applications. According to Panacol, Vitralit^® UV 7030 features high elongation at break, excellent adhesion to difficult-to-bond plastics, and rapid curing under UV light.

Vitralit UV 7030 is a one-component, solvent-free, UV-curable acrylic adhesive. It can be cured with light energy in the broad UV-A spectrum or with LED systems that produce either 365 or 405 nm wavelength. This adhesive reportedly cures in seconds at layer thicknesses of a few 100 µm, ensuring high bond strength immediately after UV exposure.

Tapes for Acoustically Insulated Tires

A new portfolio of pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes for acoustically insulated tires helps bond noise-absorbing foam and other materials to the inside surface of vehicle tires. In order to suppress the rhythm of tire impacts, Avery Dennison offers a range of pure- and modified-acrylic adhesives optimized for polyurethane foam-to-tire bonding.

The company reports that its acoustically insulated tire tapes portfolio has high adhesive coat weights that help to ensure excellent anchorage to porous, open cell foam structure. This results in an instant bond to the tire bladder that does not require heat or cure time, resulting in a quick manufacturing process.

Eco-Friendly Labeling Solutions

The FLEXcon^® optiFLEX^® ecoFOCUS™ line includes conformable polyethylene labeling solutions that reportedly enable recyclability of HDPE containers. The company reports that these white and clear products utilize its V-127RE adhesive to ensure excellent performance and maximize HDPE container recyclability. In addition, the TRACrite™ 1.2-mil polyester liner contains up to 60% post-industrial content, further minimizing the carbon footprint.

The films reportedly offer superior conformability to BOPP products, making them suitable for rigid, semi-squeeze, and full-squeeze HDPE containers without concerns about darting of labels during use. The V-127RE adhesive adheres well to HDPE containers and is compliant with FDA 175.105 for indirect food contact.

The new line of PerformAA™ air-assist (AA) and airless spray guns reportedly delivers high performance with material-specific air caps and other features. Air caps geometrically designed for general finishing, wood lacquer, low-viscosity, high-viscosity, quick drying, top coat, and waterborne applications fit both manual and automatic PerformAA models.

Graco reports that, at 1 lb (460 g), PerformAA 15, 50, and Airless are the lightest manual AA spray guns available. In addition, PerformAA Auto includes features that help operators and maintenance technicians set and quickly repeat exact air cap orientation. This is especially important in flat-line finishing automation.

A new range of high-performance anaerobic adhesives reportedly provides engineers with reliable, cost-effective, and convenient alternatives to commonly used mechanical fastening solutions such as washers, gaskets, pins, hemps, and tapes. An extension of Bostik’s Born2Bond™ portfolio, the new anaerobic range has been designed specifically to address challenges engineers face with increasingly demanding environmental and safety regulations, smaller and more complex designs, and more adaptable and faster processes.

The range is designed for “by-the-dot,” metal-to-metal bonding and includes products designed to provide heat resistance (up to 230°C, depending on product and category). These products also offer single-component, non-solvent-based, and multiple-strength/viscosity alternatives to threadlocking, pipe sealing, gasketing, and retaining.
